What is night care?

Night care is support provided during the night to help with safety, comfort, and routine. It can be helpful for people who wake frequently, feel anxious overnight, are at risk of falls, or need assistance with toileting or comfort through the night.

Our aim: A safe, calm night — with the right level of support and reassurance.

When night care can help

Night care may be suitable if someone:

  • Wakes regularly and needs reassurance or supervision
  • Is at risk of falls when moving at night
  • Needs help with toileting or personal comfort overnight
  • Is living with dementia and becomes unsettled at night
  • Has family carers who need rest and peace of mind

Types of night care

We can discuss the right option during assessment, depending on needs and availability.

Waking night care

A carer remains awake throughout the night to provide continuous support as needed.

  • Regular checks and reassurance
  • Support with toileting and comfort
  • Immediate assistance when needed

Sleeping night care

A carer is present overnight and can assist if required, with agreed expectations and response needs.

  • Overnight presence for reassurance
  • Support if the client wakes and needs help
  • Agreed boundaries in the care plan

Short-term night support

Temporary night care to support recovery, transitions, or family breaks.

  • Post-illness / recovery support
  • Respite for family carers
  • Short-term reassurance and safety
Note: The most suitable type of night care depends on how often support is needed overnight. We’ll confirm this during assessment.
